These are hard words to write. I love to talk about myself. I also hate it.
The about me sections of most websites are boring. I mean who cares, really. Does it matter to you that I grew up in Southern Indiana? How original is my love of pizza? If I barely run today, is it interesting that I've run a couple full marathons and numerous half marathons? Is it cool that a newspaper page I once designed was in the background of a scene in a Martin Scorsese film? I guess that might be kind of cool.
See what I'm saying about loathing to talk about myself while simultaneously jumping right into all the important things I think you need to know about me?
Conceptually, I wanted this About Me page to attempt to capture a few pivotal moments that ultimately shaped my career and led me to this exact moment, as I sit on the couch at 8 p.m. writing this intro, listening to Diarrhea Planet. I'm going to skip the story about almost drowning when I was five. That really didn't have any impact on my design career, while also being a key moment that lets me bore you with my story.
Grant really went for the cool points with the DP reference. Ask him to spell diarrhea without looking it up. Who says that the public schools of southern Indiana aren't top notch.
From a story-telling point of view I want to attempt to tell you something interesting. Think about my life beyond what you've already learned about me while perusing my LinkedIn.
From a conceptual or creative point of view I wanted to make the site interactive, or at least fake some artificial interactivity.
The chat panel gives you control over what you see. If the chat seems like an affectation you don't care to engage with, I get it. Just type SCROLL and the main interface will turn into a normal scrolling content area.
The question is whether any of this content will be interesting to you.
In all seriousness, I hope you enjoy this site. Like most ideas it seemed like the best idea two days ago. Now that I'm in it, I have doubts. There's no reason to let self-doubt keep me from half finishing this half-baked idea, is there?
Enjoy.
Jammy Jamz is one of my oldest Spotify playlists. It's not indicative of my daily listening, but it survives for a reason.
